Fly UX Case Study: Designing an Intuitive Flight Booking Experience

As a UX designer, my task was to create a seamless online experience for Fly UX, a start-up airline aiming to revolutionise the flight booking process. The objective was to design a user-friendly website or mobile app that enables users to search for, find, and select flights effortlessly. The project required a deep understanding of the target users, competitive benchmarking, and a thorough UX design process.

Competitive Benchmarking

As a UX designer, my task was to create a seamless online experience for Fly UX, a start-up airline aiming to revolutionise the flight booking process. The objective was to design a user-friendly website or mobile app that enables users to search for, find, and select flights effortlessly. The project required a deep understanding of the target users, competitive benchmarking, and a thorough UX design process.

Online Survey

I developed and distributed an online survey to gather quantitative data on user preferences, pain points, and expectations when booking flights online. The survey results informed the design process, ensuring that the final product aligned with user needs and expectations.

Note Taking

Throughout the research phase, I meticulously documented key findings and observations. Note-taking was crucial for capturing user feedback, competitive insights, and ideas generated during brainstorming sessions. These notes served as a valuable reference throughout the design process.

Affinity Diagram

Using the insights from competitive benchmarking, the online survey, and my notes, I created an affinity diagram. This tool helped organise and categorise the data into meaningful patterns and themes. It was instrumental in identifying user needs and prioritising design features.

Customer Journey Map

To visualise the user experience, I developed a customer journey map that outlined each step of the flight booking process. This map highlighted the emotions, pain points, and opportunities for improvement at each stage of the journey, guiding the design of a more intuitive and satisfying user experience.

Flow Diagram

I created a flow diagram to map out the ideal user flow for the Fly UX booking process. This diagram detailed the sequence of actions users would take, from searching for flights to completing their purchase. It ensured that the process was logical, efficient, and easy to navigate.

Interaction Design

Based on the user flow, I focused on interaction design to create an intuitive and engaging interface. This involved designing clear and responsive interactions for each step of the booking process, ensuring that users could easily navigate the site or app and complete their tasks without frustration.

Interactive Prototype

The culmination of the project was the development of an interactive prototype. I built a clickable prototype that simulated the full booking process, allowing users to experience the design firsthand. This prototype was tested with users to gather feedback and make iterative improvements before finalising the design.

Wireframes

In addition to the interactive prototype, I created detailed wireframes for the desktop version of the Fly UX platform. These wireframes outlined the structure and layout of each page, focusing on the desktop-specific aspects of the user experience. They served as a blueprint for the design, ensuring consistency and clarity across different devices.
